My composite artwork is made of photos, and even a single photograph is art. I’ve been taking pictures for as long as I can remember, and it really is a language for describing the world. I think that’s true, at least on some level, for everyone who takes photos.
Ancient systems of the written word can be traced back to around 4000BC, and it wasn’t until the printing press was created in 1440 AD that the sharing of text really kicked off.
It always strikes me to think of what a relatively new medium photography is. In 1826, the first photo ever recorded was burned into a plate of emulsion. With the invention of the CCD imaging chip in 1973, the recorded image took another giant leap. Today, the power to share images really is being placed in everyone’s hands.
The photograph represents a whole new language, and one which is truly in it’s infancy. I don’t know what comes next, but I welcome it!
